An event and musical venue is to be built on a total area of 20,000 m² in the former Rinderhallen. The theatre will be built in part of the impressive historic St. Marx Halle in Vienna and will have a total of 1,700 seats - almost 1,200 on the floor and 500 in the upper levels. A historic steel construction on the ceiling defines the unique character of the hall. We therefore opted for a design concept in the style of "industrial chic", which preserves and emphasises the industrial aesthetics of the historic structure.
Steel construction as a guiding design
To reach the foyer, visitors must first cross the impressive cattle hall. The huge steel structure and the newly added ramps, stairs and platforms give the foyer its modern yet glamorous flair. In the area of the Schnürboden, the roof is raised and the newly developed area is used as the basis for a large advertising space facing the south-east tangent.
Some columns will be removed from the auditorium to maximise sightlines to the stage. All rooms in the new event hall are barrier-free. Special seating is located at the front of the top tiers, which are very easy to reach via wide ramps. Despite the partial preservation of the old building stock, the hall will be equipped with a new thermal and acoustic skin.
