The school renovation of the heritage-protected building of the elementary school in Steinlerchengasse 5-7 in the 13th district of Vienna started in August 2012.

The four-storey school building, including a basement, was built in the early 19th century. Over time it received an additional building, including a divisible gymnasium. In 2012 the school was converted to a full-time school.

New design concepts for rooms, colours and fire-protection

In coordination with the Federal Monuments Office, a room- and fire-protection-concept were created. During the planning process also the colour concept has been finalized in agreement with the Federal Monuments Office and the school management.

During the summer holidays in 2013 the reconstruction of the preparation kitchen, the dining room and the staff rooms was completed on the ground floor of the school.

At the same time the complete reconstruction of the sanitary areas was introduced on all floors and was finished one year later, in the summer of 2014.

In the upcoming years the school rooms and common areas are getting rebuilt within the school renovation package 2008-2017 and a fire protection concept will be implemented in the building.

The general planning for the remodelling of a four-storey secondary school in Selzergasse 25 in Vienna's 15th district started in summer 2011 with a concept of space.

A year later the implementation of the fire protection plan for the 5.700m² large school building started.

2013 the order took place to design the school to meet the Viennese anti-discrimination-law in terms of accessibility.

    Constructions during summer holidays

Meanwhile the renovation works in the classrooms were carried out in the summer holidays. In summer 2014 first major changes were made to the gyms and the new changing- and shower-rooms, including their accessibility and development facilities.

This process included a ceiling lowering as well as the establishment of a lift, the production of a second escape route and the complete remodelling of the entire barrier-free wardrobe areas.

In the upcoming years the reconstruction of the second gym, a new elevator system as well as new sanitary blocks and the continuous substance renovations are planned.
