The main aim was to accomplish a shared space with equal conditions for every participant. In combination with the new possibilities of a multifunctional space there is a chance for a mutual identity in contrast of the present anonymity. Water is one of the main features and plays an essential role. There will be two furnished playing and relaxing areas with two fountains.

The focus of this competition entry is set on the use of shared space. The proposed restructuring of the area promotes equal rights for all individual road users.

Main idea is the thought that spatial suggestions address person’s more than strict prohibitions. By dissolving the previous clear defined subdivision of the various traffic areas a completely new feeling of space is introduced.

    Multifunctional space concept

The multifunctional project aims to integrate non-local traffic participants as part of the space-related social and cultural fabric and to invite them to stay on the court.

In this design, two wells are provided, one right side of the square and the other on the street. The level will be lowered by about 10cm towards the middle. An all-around extending Rigol prevents the fountain to overflow. Generally the multifunctional space frame will remain playable not matter what season.

Along the avenue a closed unilateral furnishing zone is provided. In addition to this furniture more rest areas are planned. The main axis is completely freed of unnecessary street furniture, allowing the emergence of a clear line of sight.
