Rooftop Extension Baden
piano man
In the idyllic small town of Baden near Vienna, which used to be the summer residence of the Habsburg emperors, the client asked for a heightening of her historic vintager home. A lofty open-plan multi-purpose room was to be added to supplement the spaces already existing on the lower level. In an artfully orchestrated volume - a steel-frame construction placed on top of the existing building - living, dining and music making are to take place.
Large elongated strip windows open up the interior, letting in an abundance of natural light while cut-out terraces complement the spatial diversity.
By cladding the exterior with untreated copper a homogenous shape with a futuristic appeal emerges - especially in combination with the glazed openings - that seems to settle quite naturally on the existing roof.
