broken space

Basic design intention of the cafeteria like restaurant, which is located in the new office and business centre 'Town Town' in Vienna, was to add complexity to a simple, linear space and reshape it in such a manifold manner, that it can no longer be conceived as a whole at first glance, but instead has to be discovered step by step.

Both an open kitchen and the bar are situated in a grey monolithic box in the centre of the restaurant. Seating is grouped around it, and differently coloured chairs create highlights among predominantly white furniture. Partially reflective room dividers are important elements of the design as they provide some intimacy and multiply the complexity of the space. Suspended from the ceiling are differently sized and well placed elements, which enhance acoustics, act as lighting and emphasize the carefully detailed design of the restaurant.
